Random TV Special Review - Atom Eve (Invincible)

 

Ahead of season two, we got a special episode of Invincible which is set up as an origin story for the titular hero who ends up initially as part of the Teen Team, before moving to the new Guardians roster and then finally settling on humanitarian actions. I guess she was popular enough for Amazon to give her an episode focused on her origin story. I don't know, it's been ages since I last saw anything to do with Invincible, but I am very much looking forward to seeing season 2. For now, let's take a look at this special episode:

Set 18 years before the show, a facility is attacked by the Lizard League and a battle between them and the Guardians, take place. A scientist, stationed there, disobeys orders and elects to leave the facility with a dying pregnant woman who gives birth to a powerful meta-human. The meta-human called Eve (reprised by Gillian Jacobs) longs for a normal life and a chance to be a hero, but struggles to maintain balance and finding a purpose to do both. Leading into events that see her learn of her true origins and more.

This special episode is pretty good. It maintains the fine animation that the main show has and is a welcome addition to the show as we wait for the next season. Don't know how much impact it will bring to the next season, but we shall see. 8/10
