AC20: Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (Cinema)

Now among all the other prequels and sequels we've had this year, A Game of Shadows is anther film that people have been waiting for since the last film. Will it be better or just as good as its predecessor? Let's find out:

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!

As he would do, Sherlock Holmes goes all over Europe to investigate various cases that are connected to a Professor Moriarty who is a criminal mastermind who is also just as smart as Sherlock is. Holmes suspects that Moriarty is using a weapons creator to create bombs in France and Germany which in turn could case war between the 2 countries. He tracks down a maser criminal and also his old lover who is acting as a courier for Moriarty which leads him into a group of criminals of some sort. In the style of the Matrix films, Sherlock plans out his moves carefully and succeeds in doing so. He then continues to follow his lover to an auction house where he stops a trap that was in the posse son of his lover and destroys it thus causing an explosion. Back in London, Watson pays a visit to Sherlock who tells him that he is getting married. The very same night, Watson has his stag do with Sherlock and his brother Mycroft. During which, Sherlock confronts a Fortune Teller and asks of her rune. As it turns out she is a target of Moriarty so Sherlock once again plans his moves to take down her assassin an while she shows some input into the fight,Sherlock once again succeeds.the following day, Watson s then married and takes a train to Brighton unaware of some assassins that are after him which with the help of Sherlock, he survives an has his wife left in the capable hands of Mycroft. Re Routing their route to France, Sherlock and Watson meet the lady from the stag do and together the plan out their next move. Unfortunately however they fail, but manage to destroy the weapons and the bombs before they are launched. They then head for Switzerland to meet with Mycroft as they enter a party with all the prime ministers and their countries ambassadors. While Sherlock plays a game of chess with Moriarty, Watson and the lady try and figure out who the assassin is. They find the lady's brother who is then poisoned by the assassin but he escapes and Watson and Sim (the lady's name by the way) fail to catch him. Sherlock and Moriarty both then use matrix styled tactics to plan their moves on each other. Due to Sherlock's bad shoulder, he would fail, so with no other alternative and just as Watson arrives to the scene, Sherlock then grabs Moriarty and forces him and himself to fall down in the waterfall. The film then ends with Sherlock's funeral and then Watson summing up his adventures with Sherlock Holmes before getting a package and then leaving the room with Sherlock in the background, showing the contraption that his brother uses for oxygen, thus showing us how he survived.

Overall, this film (despite not showing the legacy that its predecessor had) is a great film filled with action, adventure and humour. Definitely worth seeing if you loved the last film. 9/10
