Kinect VS Wii

Now to all you gamers out there, there is an unlikely chance that I'll be doing a review of any game that has Wii or Kinect in the title, so this is just to make up for it. Now I also suspect that some of you are wondering on where the PS Move is. I will say right now that the PS Move is very similar to the Wii's controllers so therefore, there is no competition for it (but I will admit that it does it's best to be as good as the Wii's ones and does a good job of it, but however lacks any good games to support it (and I mean like hardcore games)). So these 2 motion devices both redefined the way we play games in 2 very different but similar, unique and innovative ways. So today I ask the question, which is better? Let's find out:

The Hardware
Now as everyone knows, the Wii has and always has been, a motion sensing games console since day 1 and has since changed the way we play games, get fit and whatever else thanks to it's main controller, the Wii remote. The remote is like any ordinary remote, but is used for the purpose of play. It can connect to a number of additional extensions including the Nunchuck and Classic Controller which helps with big games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Kinect on the other hand, is just a motion sensor that detects you ad your body, along with it's movements. The Kinect came out a few years after the Xbox 360 originally released and despite the number of games that support it, it's still growing strong and has got a place for the 8th generation of gaming thanks to the Xbox One (still think it's very stupid). So while both hardware are good, it takes a lot of hard work to make a game that has no controller and has to relay on body movement (and it shows in games like Star Wars Kinect), but it's very innovative, whereas the motion sensing controller is pretty darn special in a way. So in round one, based on the hardware, the point goes to the Wii as it's better to have a controller, than no controller at all.

The Games
Both hardware have a good library of games which for the most part, make good use of the hardware you see and use. For the Wii, in the first few years of it's existence, it had a good amount of games with Wii Sports being the best selling game for the console and a number of great games including the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl and the Legend of Zelda games. However after 2008, the console started to lose third party support, due to it's limitations and as such, the console then remained as just something to play on in parties and family get togethers. The Kinect had a similar run where there were a few games that were considered great for the hardware, but the majority of them, didn't work out so well. This was because of the development time required for games using the Kinect, as well as will anyone actually want to use the sensor bar. As such, Microsoft attempted to allow the Kinect to have a much bigger role in the actual console, more than the games, to keep it going strong. So as a whole, both platforms, haven't done so well with the gaming market, but for the games that actually work, they both do well. Based on how fun it can be and the exercise as well, the Kinect wins this round.

The Verdict
Both hardware are great. Sure they have their limits, their good and bad sides and so on, but both are innovative, are fun for everyone and I'm sure that both of them have a pretty good future ahead for them. Personally, the Kinect is great as an 1 time experience, but for any other time, its just the same thing over and over again. The Wii on the other hand, despite the limitations and whatever else, is more fun because of the games, the popularity of it around celebrities, friends and family and its great. Both I will admit are gimmicks and both do have a future, even if it's just a short lived one. So my personal preference is the Wii, because all games need a controller, one way or another and it's less development time for a game to be made on it as well, unlike the Kinect.
