Movie Series Review - Sharknado

For many years, I have always seen Jaws as the best shark film there is and since that film, nothing has topped it. This is mostly because many films have often missed what made Jaws great and even I still don't know what that is. So with Sharknado, it is as stupid as it sounds, but it seems to have gained a cult following and it's certainly popular seeing as there is now 4 films. So let's review these films and see if they are as dumb as the name calls it (I'm excluding the 4th one as I have yet to see that one):

Sharknado
So a tornado sprouts from the water, carrying countless sharks, thus forming the titular event and starts heading to Los Angeles of all places. Our main protagonist is Fin Shepard (played by Ian Ziering), a bar owner and surfer who upon witnessing the Sharknado, finds his family and tries to escape, ultimately having to decide how to stop the Sharknado. Yeah its pretty much as stupid as it sounds. It has all the known horror tropes, it has some decent acting by some, but bad acting by others and the story just seems like something the Mythbusters should be doing (and yes that's what the Nostalgia Critic and the Cinema Snob also say in their review, but its true). Not only that but this and the other 2 films all have poor CGI and you will no doubt notice when its green screen. Granted it was a made for TV film and was made on a low budget, but still, you could at least try to make an effort. 6/10

The Second One
So following the last film, Fin and his ex-wife April (reprised by Tara Reid) are on a flight to New York to promote April's book on how to survive a Sharknado and similar events (and yes this is an actual book). As you'd expect, its not an easy flight as sharks from the sky start attacking the plane, killing almost everyone. So Fin being the hero that he is, tries to get the plane safely landed which he succeeds in doing, but his ex-wife gets her hand eaten by a shark in the process. Then we get the classic but annoying horror trope of the protagonist failing to convince everyone that a Sharknado is coming and then we get not one, but two coming and once again, its up to Fin and whatever allies he can find in New York to stop it. So even though this film is not very good, it does manage to do a good job of celebrity cameos in roles that they have done previously. I also give the film credit for its very large cast and that they upped the anty with 2 Sharknados so we're getting 2 for the price of 1. But other than that, it's still dumb and stupid and the story, CGI and green screen effects are very lazily done. But at least the acting is a tiny bit better than in the last film so that's something. 7/10

Oh Hell No!
So the film begins with a nod to the James Bond films, before we see Fin going to the White House to receive an award for saving Los Angeles and New York which just so happens to be a golden chainsaw. But another Sharknado attacks the White House, killing a number of people in the building, before unexpectedly going away. Meanwhile at Universal Orlando, Fin's daughter Claudia (played this time by Ryan Newman, taking over for Aubrey Peeples from the first film) is celebrating her birthday there with friends and family. Fin then meets up with a former ally of his and together, they set out to Orlando to save his family and formulate a plan to stop what could very well be the biggest of all Sharknadoes so far. One thing that has puzzled me about this film is that it was able to afford the likes of Penn and Teller, David Hasslehoff, Jedward and even George R. R. Martin and the CGI and green screen effects are still weak. I mean come on, is the budget really that small?! Well anyway, its got some badass moments as well as some eye candy, but the film does go very extreme towards the end and to be honest, its once again, stupid, but at least the acting is good. 7/10

Like I said, its a stupid title for a film and a lot of it doesn't make sense to the point where I'm surprised the Mythbusters haven't done anything to prove this bizarre myth. But on a positive note, some areas do get better as the series carries on like the acting and the entertaining side of them. Still needs a lot of work, but its getting there. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
