Random Movie Review - The Goonies

So with LEGO Dimensions year 2 bringing in The Goonies, I thought to give the great film that it is, a review. It was a film I remember well and it was one that served as a starting point for many of the actors in their careers. Most notably being Sean Astin who would later go on to play Sam in the hugely successful Lord of the Rings films. Its got a good cast, was made by one of the best directors out there who did Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films (among many others) and has gained itself a cult following which doesn't happen often. So let's get to it:

So we meet a group of kids who call themselves The Goonies. This consists of Mikey the optimist (played by Samwise himself, Sean Astin), Brand his older brother (played by the primary antagonist of the MCU or at least the actor who plays him anyway, Josh Brolin), Data the inventive (played by none other than Short Round, Jonathan Ke Quan), Mouth the talkative (played by Corey Feldman who's better known for his child roles than what he does now) and Chunk the overweight klutz (played by Jeff Cohen, you know the truffle shuffle guy in the film). The group choose to meet one final time before going their separate ways because of a foreclosure of their respective homes, only for them to find a treasure map. Believing that this could solve their families financial troubles or something like that, they venture out to find the treasure while also dealing with a criminal family called The Fratellis along the way.

I admire Steven Speilberg for the works he has done. He basically did most of the films in my childhood days, some of which I wouldn't get to see until many years later. The Goonies may not be one that people would be familiar with because of his involvement, but many of us like it for its humour, its adventure and just that it feels like an overally family film that would have a place in our hearts for years to come. Its fun, hasn't aged a bit and its just great. And I look forward to seeing what TT Games will do with it when it comes to LEGO Dimensions. 9/10
