Random Movie Review - Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics

Its been at least 85 years since DC Comics was a thing. Its home to some of the most beloved heroes and villains like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Joker and has gone from being a small comic book publisher to the entertainment giant that it is today. With the superhero genre in films, video games and TV being taken far more seriously now more than ever, most people all over the world will know of the once lesser known heroes and villains like Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash and Harley Quinn thanks in part to DC's attempt at taking risks with different forms of media just like their main competitor Marvel. So unsurprisingly we would eventually get a documentary that features a lot of interviews and insights into DC Comics and with narration given to us by Ryan Reynolds (who once ruined the characters of Deadpool and Hal Jordan before redeeming himself with a new take on the former), we in for a real treat. So let's get to it:

So as a documentary, there is no acting involved whatsoever. The film features interviews from DC legends like Grant Morrison, Jim Lee, Neal Adams, Bob Kane as well as those who have worked on DC's films like Zach Snyder, Christopher Nolan, Natalie Portman, Christopher Reeve, Richard Donner and so much more. Obviously most of these interviews are from archive footage as not everyone in that list (plus more) are still alive and kicking, but we get what we want to see.

So as a documentary, its good. Gives us an insight into the world of DC Comics and shows us how far a simple comic book publisher has gone in its long standing role as a major comic book company. One day we may even see a more dramatised version of how DC came about in the future. But for now, this is a good documentary, but isn't all too easy to come by (particularly in the UK). 9/10
